Nestlé, a multinational food and beverage company, has opened its “Cow-PV” agri-photovoltaic plant at its nutrition factory in Biessenhofen. The project has 4.5 MWp installed capacity across 4.74 hectares and includes 7,800 solar panels. Nestlé said the system can supply around 25% of the site’s electricity demand, equal to about 2,000 households annually. The €3 million project was developed with BayWa r.e. and keeps the land in agricultural use for grazing and forage production. Solar generation will support heat pumps, waste heat recovery and reduced natural gas use at the plant. Nestlé added that two heat pumps already save more than 3,000 tonnes of CO2 each year.
