UK first announced for 'pioneering' Suffolk marina – East Anglian Daily Times

A marina on the River Orwell is making waves by becoming a UK first.
Suffolk Yacht Harbour, based in Levington on the River Orwell, will become the first UK marina to be powered by a ground-mounted solar PV and battery energy storage system.
The project is being delivered by Push Power Ltd, a Colchester-based firm specialising in commercial solar solutions.
“This is a pioneering project for the UK’s marina sector,” Andy Khan, managing director of Push Power, said.
“Push Power will design and deliver the country’s first ground-mounted solar PV and battery energy storage system.system to energise a yacht harbour, resulting in optimal energy efficiency with significant cost savings and greater operational resilience for Suffolk Yacht Harbour.
“We anticipate Push Power’s solar solution will cover nearly 50pc of the company’s annual electricity needs, greatly reducing its reliance on grid power.”
The custom-built system will include 1,152 ground-mounted solar panels, generating an estimated 479,108kW per year, which is enough to power around 133 homes.
The unit will have an energy capacity of 852.48kWh, equivalent to powering 86 homes each day.
Founded in 1967, Suffolk Yacht Harbour is a key hub for cruising, racing, and boat maintenance, with 550 berths, additional moorings, and extensive on-site marine businesses.
Josh Major, managing director at Suffolk Yacht Harbour, said: “We’re very pleased to be working with Push Power on this project, which marks an important step forward for Suffolk Yacht Harbour.
“As a working harbour, we’re always looking for ways to evolve responsibly, supporting the businesses and people based here while reducing our impact on the environment around us.
“This installation reflects a long-term commitment to the future of the harbour, helping us move towards more sustainable operations while remaining true to the character and heritage of the site.”
