RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – West River Electric Association is warning members to watch out for phone scams involving people falsely claiming to represent the co-op and trying to sell solar panels.
The utility says it’s received several reports of these calls. In one recent case, a member in the Wasta/Wall area got a call from someone claiming the co-op sells home solar systems. The member hung up and reported it—exactly what officials recommend.
West River Electric emphasized that it does not sell solar panels. The co-op may provide general information about how solar could impact your electric bill, but it doesn’t offer or install systems.
Members are encouraged to stay cautious and report any suspicious calls. If something doesn’t seem right, the safest move is to hang up.
