MURPHYSBORO, Ill. (WEVV) — The Jackson County Board has unanimously approved a new community solar project that will generate electricity for more than 200 homes. The 1.25 MW solar project from Pivot Energy marks the first approval under the county’s solar ordinance enacted in 2025.
Pivot Energy, a national renewable energy independent power producer, has been working in Illinois since 2018. The company now has 64 Illinois solar projects in operations or construction, totaling 213 MW.
“Pivot’s team is grateful to the Jackson County Board, Assistant State’s Attorneys and especially the solar subcommittee for their questions, collaboration, and professionalism,” Becker said. “We look forward to being part of this community.”
The project was shaped by Pivot’s community-focused approach to solar development. The company conducted outreach and hosted a community meeting early in the development process to gather feedback from neighbors.
Pivot will donate to support local causes once the project becomes operational. The company’s community giving focuses on workforce development, energy burden assistance and agriculture initiatives.
The land for the solar project is leased from local landowners who will continue farming the rest of their acreage. Once operational, the Jackson County solar farm will use sheep grazing for vegetation management and plant pollinator-friendly groundcover.
Pivot expects to begin construction of the project in the first quarter of 2027.
