MNRE, an India-based renewable energy authority, has reported India’s 44 GW solar capacity addition in 2025. The addition has raised India’s total installed solar power capacity to 150 GW, according to MNRE’s reply to NatConnect, a Thane-based NGO. The ministry’s response was issued after NatConnect’s Earth Day appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. MNRE said PM Surya Ghar, PM-KUSUM, and the Production Linked Incentive scheme have supported the capacity growth. NatConnect director B N Kumar said India’s 2025 addition exceeded the US’ 30 GW to 40 GW range. He said India was behind only the EU and China, while comparing the figure with 2.5 GW before 2014. NatConnect urged a Swachh Bharat-style mass solar mission to reduce India’s 85% crude oil import dependence.
