India Inaugurates 200 MW Solar Module Line at CEL Sahibabad Under Clean Energy Push – PSU Connect

New Delhi: Central Electronics Limited (CEL) has inaugurated a 200 MW solar module manufacturing line unit at its Sahibabad facility in Uttar Pradesh, marking a major step forward in India’s clean energy manufacturing ecosystem and public–private sector collaboration.
The facility is expected to strengthen India’s domestic solar manufacturing capabilities and support the country’s broader renewable energy expansion strategy. The development aligns with India’s long-term vision of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070, while scaling up capacity across solar, wind, nuclear, and other non-fossil energy sources.
The inauguration highlights CEL’s historic role in India’s solar journey. The organisation was the first in the country to manufacture solar cells in 1977 and later established India’s first solar power plant in 1979, laying the foundation for the nation’s renewable energy sector.
Over the years, CEL has undergone a significant transformation, evolving from a period of financial stress to becoming a revenue-generating Mini Ratna public sector enterprise. The revival is being seen as a notable example of institutional turnaround within India’s PSU ecosystem.
The new 200 MW line further reinforces CEL’s position in India’s renewable energy manufacturing landscape and reflects growing confidence in indigenous clean technology production.
