ISC Konstanz Expands Solar Pilot Line with Industrial Equipment for In-House Development – News and Statistics – IndexBox

The German solar research body International Solar Energy Research Center (ISC) Konstanz has disclosed that a fully integrated, industry-grade solar cell and module pilot line will be operational by the third quarter of 2026. The institute reports that its cleanroom is currently being fitted with high-temperature processing equipment from centrotherm and automation systems from Jonas & Redmann. These tools are designed to facilitate oxidation, diffusion, CVD, and PALD processes on standard industrial wafer sizes.
After its activation in Q3 2026, ISC Konstanz will, for the first time, be able to conduct the entire spectrum of cleanroom procedures for solar cell development internally. The upgraded pilot line comprises a batch wet bench from RENA Technologies, PVD machinery from Von Ardenne, high-temperature and fast-firing furnaces from centrotherm, an expanded ASYS printing line featuring a copper print curing furnace, a laminator from Burkle, a stringer from Mondragon Assembly that accommodates back-contact solar cell technology, and a HALM table LED IV-measuring system intended for tandem applications.
The organization stated that this expansion will also revive a service model granting industrial partners direct access to its facilities for technology development, process validation, and prototype manufacturing. Radovan Kopecek, co-founder of ISC Konstanz, remarked that the new setup brings industrial development and applied research into closer alignment. He added that companies can now operate on contemporary industrial equipment at ISC Konstanz, collaborate with the institute’s team to refine processes, and produce small pilot series for niche uses.
This cleanroom enhancement marks the concluding phase of a broader infrastructure expansion carried out in stages over recent months. ISC Konstanz noted that industrial partners can lease the equipment, conduct prototype work within ISC premises, utilize contract research offerings, and engage in practical training sessions on industrial-scale manufacturing tools. The institute also mentioned that the expanded line will enable small-series production of specialized solar cells and modules with greater automation than was previously possible.
Recently, ISC Konstanz entered a partnership with Indian renewable energy firm Celloraa Energy to aid in establishing a 1.2GW tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) solar cell manufacturing plant in Gujarat, India. Under this arrangement, ISC Konstanz was designated as the lead technology and qualification partner for the initiative, backing Celloraa Energy’s efforts to boost domestic solar cell production capacity in India.
