Existing solar consumers: IMF shows concerns over net metering policy – The News Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has expressed concerns over net metering policy for existing solar consumers in Pakistan, while describing net billing model as being in line with international standards.
According to IMF, existing solar consumers have been exempted from new model, which means cross-subsidisation from electricity grid to solar users will continue.
The IMF report states solar policy has now created separate categories for new and existing solar consumers. The net metering system has been retained for existing solar users, and they have not been shifted to net billing, whereas new solar consumers have been moved to net billing system.
Last month, National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) issued a notification amending solar policy, under which net metering policy for existing solar users was maintained. No changes were made to agreements of existing solar net metering consumers, and their licenses will remain valid until the end of their current terms.
