A motion to approve a special use permit for a solar farm on Old Troy Road in Glen Carbon failed to gain any traction with the Madison County Board, Wednesday night. It died for a lack of a second. Trentino Solar is seeking to place 467 solar panels in a field. The zoning board of appeals recommended denial of the permit, and the county board’s building and zoning committee took no action on it.
Glen Carbon city administrator Jamie Bowden read a letter from mayor Bob Marcus asking for the special use permit to be denied. A representative of the solar company urged support:
Representatives from the developer said they have followed the state and county guidelines for a solar permit and any talk about changes the Illinois legislature may make in giving counties more authority in regulating solar farm placement, is just speculation.
