Neoenergia, Brazilian power utility company and subsidiary of Iberdrola, has completed the first phase of the Noronha Verde project in Fernando de Noronha, Brazil. The company implemented the 4,800 solar panels, representing for 15% of the planned photovoltaic facility. Grid connection tests have started to supply electricity to the island’s power network. The project will contain more than 30,000 solar panels, 22 MW of solar capacity and 49 MWh of battery storage. Iberdrola announced the project represents an investment of BRL 350 million ($56 million) The system is expected to supply electricity equivalent to 9,000 homes while reducing reliance on biodiesel generation. The whole project completion is scheduled for the end of 2026.
