US headquartered Earthrise Energy, an independent power producer, has received approval from the Will County Board for the 600 MW Pride of the Prairie solar energy project in Illinois. The project will use the existing interconnection point at the Lincoln Generating Facility to accelerate grid connection timelines. Earthrise stated the project could generate around $3.5 million in new tax proceeds for local taxing bodies during the first year of operation. The county is also expected to receive approximately $300,000 in the first operational year. Over the project lifetime, local tax benefits could total nearly $80 million while county payments may reach about $7 million. The solar power plant is expected to generate close to 1,000 jobs that involve both the construction and operation of the power plant. According to Earthrise, the project would employ union workers.
