US based EGE Haina, public-private company, has launched a 200 MW hybrid renewable energy plant named Esperanza Renovable in the Valverde province of Dominican Republic. It is a combination of the 60 MW Esperanza Solar 2 power station, the 49.5 MW Esperanza Wind plant and the 90 MW Esperanza Solar 1 power station. This renewable energy plant is expected to produce 485,000 MWh of energy per year after investing $246.5 million. The solar plants include 259,370 bifacial photovoltaic panels deployed over 246 hectares and the wind project will use 11 Vestas V163 wind turbines having a rating of 4.5 MW each. EGE Haina stated the project marks the first large-scale hybrid wind and solar energy injection into the Dominican Republic’s National Interconnected Electric System. The company also plans to add a 200 MWh battery energy storage system under the country’s first renewable energy tender with storage. EGE Haina said construction created 1,400 direct jobs and the project is expected to avoid 275,575 tons of CO2 emissions annually.
