BlueNewables, an engineering consultancy based in Spain, has launched the first platform of its PV-bos floating solar technology in Vigo. The platform, named Paiporta, was put into the water at the facilities of the Vigo-based shipyard San Enrique on May 18. According to BlueNewables, the PV-bos system integrates bifacial solar panels with modular floating platforms and containerized inverters, and uses seawater as a natural refrigerant to improve energy efficiency.
The company stated that over the coming weeks, commissioning and final preparation work will be completed in Vigo. After that, the Paiporta platform will be towed to its final site in Valencia for operational validation in open sea conditions. BlueNewables explained that the name Paiporta was chosen as a tribute to the victims of the DANA storm, which severely affected the Valencian Community and especially the municipality that became a symbol of the tragedy.
Bernardino Counago, Co-founder and CEO of BlueNewables, described the launch as a very important milestone in the company’s technology roadmap. He said the event positions BlueNewables among the world leaders in the marine floating solar sector and demonstrates the industrial and technological capabilities present in Galicia and Spain for leading innovative energy solutions internationally.
