Sunkind India is set to take its next step in the renewable energy business by beginning the manufacturing of solar modules. The company has already installed a 1 GW production line near Jaipur in Rajasthan. The facility is expected to start commercial operations in June, once the ongoing trial phase is complete.
Until now, the firm has mainly worked on solar EPC projects along with independent power producer projects for commercial and industrial customers. According to the company, manufacturing modules in-house will help improve project execution and reduce dependence on outside suppliers.
Managing Director, Hanish Gupta, said the company has also secured the supply of solar cells needed for the new manufacturing business. Sunkind has signed an agreement with a domestic manufacturer for the purchase of 1 GW of DCR solar cells. The order is estimated to be worth between USD 125 million and USD 156 million.

In the solar manufacturing chain, modules are built using solar cells, while the production of cells depends on wafers and ingots. Because of this, access to a stable cell supply is considered important for uninterrupted module production.
Gupta explained that the agreement would help the company secure ALMM-compliant cells for its upcoming operations. From June 1, the government’s ALMM-II policy will require renewable energy projects to use only India-made solar cells. The measure has been introduced to strengthen domestic manufacturing and support local industry players.
The company has not disclosed the name of the supplier involved in the agreement. Gupta said the details cannot be shared because both sides have signed a non-disclosure agreement.
With the launch of the Jaipur facility, Sunkind India is looking to expand beyond its existing EPC and IPP activities and establish a stronger presence in the country’s solar manufacturing sector. The move comes at a time when domestic renewable energy production is receiving increased policy support and investment across India.
