Solar Farm: Public Statement on Poarch’s Efforts
Atmore, Ala. – The Poarch Creek Indians are aware of several proposed solar development projects in Baldwin and Escambia Counties and are actively engaging where appropriate to ensure cultural and historical considerations are part of the conversation.
Many of the areas connected to these proposed projects hold historical and cultural significance to the Tribe and Tribal Citizens. Over the past several months, the Tribe has conducted outreach with community stakeholders and project developers to better understand the scope of these projects and encourage meaningful dialogue early in the process.
The Tribe has participated in discussions with representatives connected to the Stockton Solar Project and NextEra Energy Project and has sent formal letters to all known developers associated with these proposed projects expressing interest in engagement and cultural consultation discussions. To date, there has been no response from Tensaw Solar.
The Poarch Creek Indians remain committed to respectful communication and proactive engagement to help ensure areas of cultural importance are properly understood and thoughtfully considered as these projects continue to develop.
