Canadian Solar has introduced a new solar module, the TOPCon 3.0, which achieves a power output of 670 watts and a conversion efficiency of 24.8 percent, according to the company. The module is bifacial, offering up to 0.5 percent additional system-level energy gain, and features a temperature coefficient of 0.26 percent per degree Celsius. Canadian Solar expects the module to degrade less than 1 percent in its first year and 0.35 percent annually in subsequent years.
The new product uses M10 (182mm) cell wafers and shows slightly improved performance compared to the company’s earlier Gen2 182 Pro module, which had a maximum power output of 660 watts and a conversion efficiency of 24.4 percent. Dr. Shawn Qu, who recently moved to the roles of executive chairman and chief technology officer, stated that the module reflects the company’s dedication to advancing high-efficiency photovoltaic technology.
The announcement comes just before this year’s Intersolar Europe event, scheduled in Munich from June 23 to 25. Canadian Solar said it will display the module at the summit. This follows a similar pattern from last year, when the company unveiled the second generation of its TOPCon module at the 2025 edition of Intersolar Europe.
Canadian Solar plans to begin global shipments of the TOPCon 3.0 modules this August, but did not disclose specific destinations or manufacturing locations. Like many module manufacturers selling to the United States, the company has been shifting its manufacturing capacity to the U.S. to avoid tariffs on overseas goods imposed by President Donald Trump. This relocation effort contributed to a decline in Canadian Solar’s module shipments earlier this year, breaking a seven-quarter streak of sustained increases.
However, the company’s U.S. focus has also produced positive results. Canadian Solar has invested in a solar cell manufacturing plant in Jeffersonville, Indiana, and expects to begin full-scale production there by the end of this month. That facility will also produce heterojunction (HJT) cells, which have become the preferred cell technology in the U.S. as the International Trade Commission investigated several lawsuits alleging copyright infringement related to TOPCon cells.
