Trina Solar, a China-based solar PV manufacturer headquartered in Shanghai, announced that it secured its first commercial order for perovskite/crystalline silicon tandem PV modules. The order came from a premium residential solar customer in New Zealand, marking the first commercial deployment of tandem PV products in a high-end distributed energy application. The modules are based on Trina Solar’s 900+ W tandem technology and have been developed to meet residential PV application standards. According to Trina Solar, the tandem modules can reduce balance-of-system costs by 15%–20% compared with conventional crystalline silicon modules. The company also stated that the products can increase energy generation per unit area by 20%–30% through improved temperature coefficient and low-light performance. The project represents the first global market deployment of a Chinese-developed tandem technology product and supports the commercialization of next-generation photovoltaic modules.
