LEWISTON, Minn. — It will take $100,000 to repair a Lewiston school’s solar panel array after a man shattered parts of it with an extension cord.
Brenden Robert Myers, 21, faces one charge of felony first-degree damage to property.

At about 6:40 p.m. June 21, the Winona County Sheriff’s Office responded to a Lewiston school on reports that a man was damaging solar panels.
A witness reported that a “younger, white male subject” appeared to be striking the panels with an extension cord.
The suspect, wearing a black hoodie with gray sleeves, got into a silver sedan and drove west.
A Winona County deputy found the car in a Dollar Tree parking lot and saw a person matching the suspect description get in.
When the deputy made contact with Myers, he initially denied damaging the solar panels.
The deputy called the witness back, who gave a more specific description of the suspect’s clothing, all of which matched Myers, according to court documents.
When the deputy asked Myers if he’d damaged the solar panels again, Myers allegedly admitted he had.

Investigators later found an extension cord nearby and concluded that the damage to the panels was from the plug portion striking the panels and shattering the glass.
The witness estimated that fixing or replacing the panels would “likely exceed $100,000.”
