Campaigners welcome East Riding vote on solar farm engagement – Yahoo News UK

Campaigners opposing the rollout of solar farms are celebrating after councillors backed a renewed push for public engagement.
East Riding Against Solar Expansion (ERASE) welcomed unanimous support for a motion at a full council meeting in Beverley calling for greater community involvement in decisions on large-scale solar farm developments.
The motion, proposed by Councillor Aitken and seconded by Councillor Saribal, followed an hour-long debate.
George McManus, spokesman for ERASE, said: "This is brilliant news.
"This is the culmination of our two-year campaign to get the public involved in the process.
"The council must now deliver on its promise to provide clear guidance to residents on how to get involved.
"We are currently sleepwalking towards a great tragedy, the despoiling of our beautiful countryside.
"Once people become aware of the plans, they are horrified at the potential outcome.
"We can influence these outcomes, but only if we raise our voices together.
"But time is running out.
"Because once it's gone, it's gone."
The council agreed to take a county-wide approach to assess the cumulative impact of multiple large-scale solar projects rather than considering each one in isolation.
It also pledged to lobby the Government and launch a public awareness campaign to inform and engage residents.
