berdrola has commissioned a 243 MW solar plant in Italy and has also started building a 41 MW/82 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in the United States.
Iberdrola is building the Shutler BESS in Gilliam County, Oregon. The project, which is being developed by Iberdrola subsidiary Avangrid, will have 41 MW of power and 82 MWh of storage capacity.
Avangrid has about 3 GW of generation capacity in the northwestern United States. The Shutler battery system is scheduled to enter operation in 2027.
Separately, the Spanish utility said its Fénix solar plant in Sicily is now operational. A significant share of the plant’s output has been contracted under long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Italian companies. The project also received financing from the European Investment Bank.
