Otokar has commissioned a 10 MW solar power plant in Malatya, Türkiye, as part of its sustainability strategy. The photovoltaic facility is expected to generate 19 GWh of electricity annually, covering approximately 60% of the electricity demand of the company’s manufacturing plant.
Notably, the solar power plant is located in Malatya, around 1,000 km from Otokar’s manufacturing complex in Sakarya. The stated coverage of “60% of the factory’s electricity needs” is likely to refer to an equivalent amount of renewable electricity injected into the grid and credited against the company’s industrial electricity consumption.
The solar installation comprises approximately 19,000 photovoltaic panels, supported by two 6 MVA transformers and 34 inverters.
The project forms part of Otokar’s broader sustainability and energy efficiency programme. Commenting on the commissioning, CEO Aykut Özüner said that “For more than 60 years, we have been shaping the future of transportation technology through the vehicles we design and produce. Today, we are fulfilling our responsibility to nature and future generations not only through our vehicles but also through our production processes. The 10 MW solar power plant we have commissioned in Malatya represents an important step toward our goal of reducing the carbon footprint of our production. Meeting 60% of our factory’s electricity needs from renewable sources demonstrates the importance we place on environmental sustainability. We will continue to use our engineering strength not only in our products but also to support the green transformation at every stage of our operations.”
