A dispute over the interpretation of a new Maine solar law has placed the town of Northport and Central Maine Power Co. on opposite sides of a regulatory battle that could shape how municipalities, utilities and solar developers pursue clean energy projects across the state for years to come.
In a petition filed with the Maine Public Utilities Commission, Northport Town Administrator James Kossuth is asking state regulators to issue an advisory ruling declaring that CMP must approve the town’s proposed solar project at its municipal sand shed on Beech Hill Road. Kossuth said the goal is straightforward.
