Acciona Energia, a Spanish developer focused on renewables, is moving forward with a 235MWp solar photovoltaic installation in Kentucky, which will be its 18th renewable energy venture within the United States.
Dubbed the Fleming Solar project after its siting in Fleming County, Kentucky, construction is slated to start shortly, with commercial operation targeted for May 2028, according to the firm.
When finished, this facility will represent Acciona Energia’s fifth solar PV undertaking in the US, augmenting its current nationwide holdings of 3GW in renewable power and energy storage systems.
In late 2024, Acciona disclosed the divestiture of a 49% non-controlling interest in its four existing US solar PV installations. Mexico Infrastructure Partners, a Mexican investment entity, purchased that share of the 1.3GW solar portfolio, together with complete control of two wind farms.
This deal fell under Acciona Energia’s selective asset rotation approach, through which it has offloaded more than 1.7GW of renewable assets worth roughly EUR2.4 billion (US$2.75 billion) since mid-2024.
Beyond the planned Kentucky site, the company has built the 458MW Red Tailed Hawk and 316MW Fort Bend solar projects in Texas, the 127MW High Point facility in Illinois, and the 415MW Union Solar project in Ohio.
Internationally, where the US leads in installed capacity, Acciona Energia holds over 1GW of combined solar capacity across Central America and Chile, more than 300MW in its domestic Spanish market, and portfolios in Egypt, Ukraine, and South Africa. The company states its total solar PV capacity across active markets exceeds 4.2GW.
Of note, its Chilean operations feature the 238MW Malgarida project, which received a 1GWh battery energy storage system addition in November 2025.
