LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Townsite Solar 2, LLC (TS2) has dropped its request to use city-owned land near I-11 and U.S. 95 for a proposed data center, ending Boulder City’s formal review of that request.
TS2 currently has an option to lease about 88.5 acres of city land for a solar farm and battery storage project.
That option expires Dec. 31, 2026. TS2 also has a separate federal right-of-way from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for a nearby 80-acre site for solar and battery storage.

Late last year, TS2 asked to change the city land project from solar/batteries to a data center. Because that would require a new lease, the city required TS2 to start the Land Management Process (LMP) — Boulder City’s first step that includes public input.
Even though TS2 withdrew its city application, the City Council will still discuss data centers at its meeting on Tuesday, July 14, including a recommendation from the Planning Commission.
In May, the Planning Commission voted 6-1 against adding data centers to the LMP list, saying the city needs more rules and oversight for that type of development.
Meanwhile, the BLM on June 26 approved TS2’s request to amend its federal right-of-way to allow a data center on an adjacent federal parcel. That decision has a 30-day appeal period.
City Manager Ned Thomas said the city’s public process on the topic will wrap up with the July 14 council discussion.
City officials previously estimated a data center lease could bring in about $1.47 million a year, and about $2.3 million a year total when including property taxes, permit fees and other charges.
