Fluke Corporation has launched the PV Module Lift, an unpowered hoisting kit engineered to safely transport solar panels up standard extension ladders. The manual tool addresses a critical safety bottleneck in residential and commercial rooftop solar installations, allowing crews to remain compliant with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards by keeping three points of contact while climbing.
The entire unpowered system weighs 14.97 kg and packs into a portable canvas bag, eliminating the logistical hassle, fuel costs, and setup times associated with motorized or gas-powered ladder hoists. The system integrates directly with existing Werner or Louisville fiberglass extension ladders on the job site. It uses a top-mounted pulley assembly and a patented frame hook that holds the solar panel securely to prevent dangerous lateral sliding during transit.
To ensure continuous travel, the assembly features integrated ramps that guide the module cleanly over the physical step-up where extension ladder sections overlap. For crew and asset safety, the tool features a built-in braking mechanism. If a ground operator accidentally releases the lifting rope prematurely, the automatic brake instantly engages to lock the panel in place, preventing a freefall down the ladder rails.
Designed for single-person deployment, the kit can be taken from a service vehicle and fully rigged in under five minutes. Fluke offers the tool in two retail configurations to match different staging heights, packaged with either a 60-foot (18.3 m) or 80-foot (24.4 m) rope.
The launch represents a continuing balance-of-system portfolio expansion for Fluke, a subsidiary of Fortive. Best known for electronic test and measurement hardware, the manufacturer is increasingly delivering manual mechanical tools to directly target frontline installation safety and labor efficiency.
