SolarEdge Technologies has announced the nationwide availability of its Nexis residential solar and storage platform in the United States.
The platform consists of a new solar inverter that can deliver 13 kW of power when used on-grid and 14.5 kW when the grid is down, coupled with 5 kWh stackable modular battery blocks that can be used in systems up to 80 kWh in size.
Nexis battery modules include built-in handles to allow for easy carrying and are designed with an aluminum chassis that acts as passive heat dissipation. When stacked, the batteries click into place and automatically connect wiring and communications with the other modules in the stack.
A Nexis inverter is all that is necessary for solar-only mode, with the battery modules as an optional add-on. When paired with storage, the system can be AC-coupled to an existing solar installation for battery retrofits, and can also be DC-coupled to new solar for fresh installations or the addition of new panels to a home with an existing solar installation.
With a minimum of three battery modules installed, SolarEdge says the system can deliver up to 185 locked rotor amps (LRA) to handle the huge rush of current necessary to start heavy electric motors like those in large central air conditioning systems.
Among the more impressive specs of the system is its round-trip efficiency of 92.5%. In comments to pv magazine USA, Nexis product manager Cameron Stewart said the inverter can hit that number when taking energy from solar panels, storing it in the batteries, and then delivering it to the home or grid.
To celebrate the Nexis launch, the company is hosting a “Takeover Day” livestream event on July 15 from its Milpitas, California, headquarters to showcase the product to installers and distributors. Stewart said the presentation will feature testimonials from installers that worked on alpha and beta test installations, along with a live demonstration of Nexis installation.
“What takeover day is really showcasing what our customers think about it, not what SolarEdge thinks about it,” Stewart said. “SolarEdge can say, ‘yeah, our product’s the best,’ but at the end of the day, it really does come down to what our customers think of the product.”
Stewart emphasized that the company deliberately designed the Nexis system to eliminate common pain points for installation crews, making the modules easy to carry, designing the mechanical connections to occur automatically when the modules are clicked into place and reducing the time it takes for the commissioning process to just minutes.
Product testing
During the design phase, the company conducted interviews with installers and tailored the design to their needs. Prior to the nationwide launch of the Nexis platform, SolarEdge engaged in a number of tests with U.S. installers, and the company has also launched the products in other countries.
“We installed hundreds of units in the U.S. before the launch to make sure that we get some real field experience for these systems to make sure that if there are issues or bugs or anything of that sort, we will figure them out even before the launch,” said SolarEdge CEO Shuki Nir in comments to pv magazine USA. “The feedback that we’ve received so far from installers on both sides of the pond who have installed the Nexis has been very positive, not only compared to previous solar systems but actually compared to every other system available in the market.”
Stewart said that skilled installation teams can install a Nexis system in less than 20 minutes, and commissioning the system takes under 15 minutes once it is installed. “The act of setting one piece on top of the other… It does all your mechanical connections. It does all your wiring. It does all your communications,’ he said. “The longest part of installing Nexis is taking it out of the box.”
Market alignment and domestic manufacturing
Nir and Stewart say the Nexis system is designed to address the ongoing shift in the residential market toward adding storage to solar installations, and also designed to meet the needs of third-party-ownership (TPO) providers.
Specifically, all Nexis components other than the battery cells are manufactured in the U.S., helping TPO providers qualify for domestic content requirements and the associated bonus tax credits on their projects. Nir said TPO providers
In addition, the Nexis system will work in conjunction with the virtual power plant programs (VPPs) in which SolarEdge already participates, allowing homeowners to save extra money and TPO providers to generate extra revenue.
Market outlook and growth
The nationwide rollout of the Nexis platform comes as the U.S. residential energy storage market navigates a period of transition.
According to Wood Mackenzie’s U.S. Energy Storage Monitor report for the first quarter of 2026, the national residential storage market is projected to contract by 5% this year, but the segment is expected to expand at a 12% average annual pace over the next four years.
As state-level net metering changes and time-of-use pricing increasingly encourage homeowners to store excess solar power, Wood Mackenzie reports the national residential solar-plus-storage attachment rate reached a record 45% in the first quarter of 2026.
