“Success in renewable energy depends on making the right technology choices early and continuing to invest as the market evolves,” says Alexey Ustinov, Independent Director, JAKSON Engineers Limited, part of JAKSON Group, one of India’s leading energy and infrastructure conglomerates.
According to Ustinov, a clear technology vision, sustained investments in R&D, localization and commercialization, and the ability to scale manufacturing are critical to building long-term competitiveness in the evolving renewable energy market.
“Technology leadership is a continuous process. It requires anticipating where the market is headed, investing ahead of demand and continuously strengthening capabilities. JAKSON has built a strong foundation in this direction through its focus on technology, manufacturing and long-term growth,” said Ustinov.
He added that JAKSON has the potential to become a key player in global renewable energy markets, supported by its engineering capabilities, strong manufacturing foundation and decades of experience.
Established in 1947, JAKSON Group has evolved from a diesel generator manufacturer into a diversified energy and infrastructure solutions provider. The company now operates across solar power, green molecules, alternative fuels, energy storage systems, and renewable energy and civil EPC services. It manufactures high-efficiency solar modules and is developing a 6 GW integrated solar manufacturing facility in Madhya Pradesh. It has also partnered with a European technology provider to establish a solar PV module recycling plant in India.
The BESS imperative
According to Ustinov, India’s renewable energy growth is driven by abundant solar resources and the need to reduce dependence on imported hydrocarbons.
“India has one of the best geographical locations from the solar radiation perspective. This opens up the door for solar energy to become a major source of power, and that is where we see continuous growth in the country,” Ustinov said.
However, the increasing share of variable renewable energy sources such as solar and wind presents challenges for grid integration. Solar and wind generation depend on weather conditions and the time of day, meaning output does not always align with electricity demand.
“And that’s where we see a lot of developments in recent years to create battery energy storage systems that can store excess energy produced by solar or wind projects and supply it when needed,” he said.
Ustinov added that the cost of renewable energy solutions has declined significantly and that, over time, these technologies are expected to become more cost-effective than conventional power generation.
JAKSON has recently ventured into the BESS segment to support round-the-clock energy supply.
Green molecule advantage
Ustinov said India also has significant potential to develop cost-competitive green hydrogen and its derivatives, including green ammonia and green methanol.
He added that India has significant potential to improve the competitiveness of green hydrogen and its derivatives due to its high solar irradiation levels, which can help reduce renewable electricity costs.
