Avaada Electro, the solar photovoltaic manufacturing unit of Avaada Group, has brought online the initial 3GW production line at its 6GW N-type tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) solar cell plant in Maharashtra, India.
The site in Butibori, Nagpur, is being activated in stages as part of the company’s broader manufacturing expansion, with the remaining 3GW of yearly production capacity currently undergoing ramp-up.
Avaada indicated that the line can produce N-type TOPCon solar cells achieving efficiencies up to 25.5% under standard test conditions. The cells utilize 16-busbar and 18-busbar designs to boost power density, dependability, and energy output.
Vineet Mittal, chairman of Avaada Electro Limited, stated that by establishing the 6GW solar cell factory in Nagpur, Avaada is supporting India’s green industrial age and full technology self-reliance. He described the facility as a commitment to the nation, a localized manufacturing ecosystem built to cut foreign import reliance during a period of de-globalization, accelerate economic progress, and place India at the leading edge of the global energy shift. Mittal added that the factory is a sustainable, co-located complex founded on local innovation and environmental care.
The company currently runs 8.5GW of yearly N-type TOPCon glass-to-glass module manufacturing capacity at its Nagpur and Dadri sites and intends to add another 5.1GW, raising total module capacity to 13.6GW.
Avaada also plans to add an extra 6GW of solar cell manufacturing capacity in Greater Noida, which would increase its overall solar cell production capacity to 12GW. As part of its backward integration approach, the company is planning 3GW of ingot and wafer manufacturing capacity in Nagpur.
The company noted that the integrated manufacturing setup aims to bolster supply chain resilience, enhance operational efficiency, lower logistics expenses, and increase localization throughout the solar PV value chain.
Based in Mumbai, Avaada Group reported a renewable energy portfolio exceeding 17.7GWp, including over 7.2GWp of operational assets and roughly 10.5GWp under development.
Last month, the company obtained nearly US$950 million in debt financing for three utility-scale renewable energy projects in India. The funding covered a firm and dispatchable renewable energy project in Bikaner, Rajasthan, and two 300MW solar PV projects in Rajasthan and Gujarat. All three projects remain under construction and are slated for commissioning in fiscal years 2027 and 2028.
