Mozambique Solar Panel Factory returns to hope – CLUB OF MOZAMBIQUE

The Chairman of the Board of Directors (PCA) of the Energy Fund (FUNAE, FP), Mety Gondola, carried out this Monday a working visit to the Mozambique Solar Panel Factory, in Maputo province, in the south of the country, with the objective of evaluating the organization and operating level of the manufacturing unit, as well as interacting with the technical team.
During the visit, the Chairman noted with concern that the factory has been paralyzed for about three years, a situation that represents an estimated annual fixed cost of 18.75 million meticais (around 297 thousand dollars). According to the report presented by the technical team, the technological package currently installed faces limitations in productive efficiency. When in operation, the unit has the capacity to produce about 40 solar panels per day, with power up to 270 W, at an approximate cost of 14 thousand meticais per unit. However, the market currently offers panels with power up to 610 Wp for an average cost of 15 thousand meticais, which highlights the need for technological modernization to guarantee greater competitiveness.
The Chairman was also informed that the factory maintains 14 workers with active contractual ties, who continue to receive their respective salaries, although they do not perform regular activities due to the shutdown of the unit. Faced with this scenario, Mety Gondola announced the decision to proceed with the reorientation of the workers, according to their professional profiles and competencies, planning their integration into FUNAE’s central structures, local-level State institutions, and other entities where they can contribute effectively.
On the occasion, the Chairman highlighted that this measure seeks, above all, to restore dignity to the employees. As he stated, it became clear that the primary concern of the workers is not limited to remuneration, but also to the impossibility of performing their duties and putting their skills at the service of the development of the institution and the country.
The visit took place in an environment of open dialogue and constructive spirit, reinforcing FUNAE’s commitment to finding solutions for the revitalization of the Mozambique Solar Panel Factory, with the purpose of restoring its activity and competitively serving national and regional markets.
