Construction has begun on China’s first full-chain zero carbon freight corridor along the Hengqin Expressway in Guangxi. The project includes a 7.17 MW PV power station across service-area roofs, parking canopies, interchange ramps and roadside slopes. This distributed layout avoids arable land while supporting self-consumption, surplus electricity storage and intelligent energy allocation. The solar generation system will directly serve megawatt-scale supercharging equipment and truck battery-swap stations without placing additional expansion demands on the municipal grid. A heavy-duty truck can complete a battery swap within 3 minutes, whereas 15 minutes of fast charging delivers 200 km of driving range. The corridor also combines PV-based energy savings with mangrove forests and forestry carbon sinks to address remaining emissions. Together, these systems are intended to offset lifecycle carbon emissions across the corridor’s transport and energy operations.
