Dominican renewable plants secure grid nod—demand hits record – BNamericas

Dominican Republic power regulator SIE authorized the startup of EGE Haina‘s 49.5MW Esperanza wind farm on the national interconnected electrical system (SENI).
EGE Haina held a ribbon cutting ceremony in May for the plant as part of a generation complex in Valverde province that includes the 90MW Esperanza Solar 1 and 60MW Esperanza Solar 2 parks.
The watchdog also issued a provisional SENI interconnection permit for Irradiasol Dominicana‘s 63.35MW Pedro Corto solar plant in San Juan province. The company has 90 working days to conduct testing.
And the regulator extended Poseidón Energía Renovable‘s provisional SENI interconnection permit for the 46.8MW Los Guzmancito II wind farm in Puerto Plata province by 65 working days.
Demand high
The SENI recorded a new maximum demand record of 4,167MW on July 16 at 9:58pm, the energy and mines ministry reported.
Minister Joel Santos attributed the new high to higher economic activity, an increase in residential use and seasonal high temperatures.
The last record was set on June 18, when demand hit 4,077MW, breaking 4,000MW for the first time.
