The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is Japan’s official development assistance agency supporting infrastructure, energy and private sector investment projects worldwide. JICA has signed a loan agreement for the Timor Solar Independent Power Project in Timor-Leste alongside the World Bank Group and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The project will develop a 73.7 MW (AC) grid-connected solar PV plant with an 80.2 MWh battery energy storage system, transmission lines and related infrastructure. The $85.7 million financing package supports Timor-Leste’s first independent power producer project. The facility is expected to supply electricity equivalent to the annual consumption of about 80,000 households under a 25-year power purchase agreement with EDTL.
