Bhutan tenders solar systems for three schools – pv magazine Global

Bhutan’s Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources has launched a tender for the development of three grid-tied rooftop solar photovoltaic systems to be built at three different schools.
The chosen developer will be responsible for the engineering, design, supply, transportation, installation, testing, commissioning and remote monitoring of the solar plants. The work is expected to be completed within eight months.
The bidding documents, available for free via the ministry’s website, list indicative capacities of 158.4 kW, 144.1 kW and 381.7 kW for each of the solar plants following preliminary site assessments. The final system capacity will be determined by the successful bidder.
The tender is open to both domestic and international applicants. The deadline to submit bids is August 24.
This latest tender in Bhutan follows opportunities to develop rooftop solar at 73 public healthcare facilities and a nationwide call for the construction of unsolicited solar projects on a build-own-operate basis.
In July, the Asian Development Bank approved a $160 million loan to go towards a solar expansion project in Bhutan covering 310 MW of solar.
Bhutan’s cumulative solar capacity stood at 21 MW by the end of 2025, up from 3 MW at the end of 2024, according to figures published by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). The increase follows the commissioning of its first utility-scale solar plant, a 17.38 MW array, in mid-2025.
