LONGi has announced a new world record in solar cell efficiency, with its independently developed crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem solar cell achieving a 35.5% conversion efficiency, certified by the European Solar Test Installation (ESTI). This achievement was unveiled at the 2026 Solar and Energy Storage Innovation Conference, representing another milestone in the advancement of solar technology.
Crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem solar cells are widely recognized as the route for next-generation high-efficiency solar cells, with an efficiency limit of up to 43%, significantly higher than the 33.7% limit for conventional single-junction silicon solar cells.
Through consistent research and development, LONGi has successfully advanced the performance of tandem solar technology. Since first surpassing 33% efficiency in 2023, LONGi has continued to raise the benchmark, achieving a current record of 35.5%.
The company’s progress extends beyond laboratory-scale cells. Earlier this year, LONGi’s 35.2% two-terminal crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem solar cell was included in the 68th edition of the Solar Cell Efficiency Tables, published by the team led by Professor Martin Green at the University of New South Wales. LONGi has also demonstrated strong performance on larger-area cells and tandem modules, highlighting the technology’s potential for industrial applications.
