KUALA LUMPUR (July 29): MBSB Bank Bhd (KL:MBSB) is partnering with the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (Seda) Malaysia to sponsor specialised solar training and certification for 61 wiremen and chargemen from the Asnaf community.
The Asnaf community are Muslims who come from struggling backgrounds and are entitled to zakat funding, a collection of religious donations by affluent Muslims.
The bank in a statement said it has committed RM146,400 in zakat funding to help these 61 tradesmen complete Seda Malaysia’s Grid-Connected Photovoltaic Systems for Wireman and Chargeman programme, which focuses on skills required for solar installation, testing and commissioning work.
Completing this five-day course will allow participants to seek work related to solar photovoltaics, or solar panels.
To join the programme, participants must have basic Energy Commission certifications, such as PW2 or A0 for wiremen and chargemen.
Of the total pool, MBSB will provide RM2,400 per participant to cover course fees, learning materials, meals and examinations for the programme.
This comes as Malaysia prepares to introduce 2,650MW of new solar capacity under the sixth round of the Large-Scale Solar programme, which is expected to attract RM13 to 15 billion in private investment and create between 15,000 and 20,000 new jobs.
