NLC India Renewables Ltd (NIRL), the renewable energy subsidiary of state-owned NLC India Ltd, has received a Letter of Intent (LoI) from Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL) to develop a 900 MW solar power project.
The project was awarded through a tariff-based competitive bidding process, with GUVNL set to procure the electricity generated under a long-term power purchase agreement.
NIRL’s latest project win follows a recent Letter of Award from Bundelkhand Saur Urja Ltd (BSUL), a joint venture between NHPC Ltd and the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA), for the development of two 300 MW solar projects at the Jalaun Solar Power Park in Uttar Pradesh.
Together, the Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh awards add 1.5 GW of utility-scale solar capacity to NIRL’s project pipeline.
Incorporated on June 14, 2023, NIRL is a wholly owned subsidiary of NLC India established to consolidate the group’s renewable energy assets and spearhead its clean energy growth. The company had 1.8 GW of operational renewable energy capacity as of March 31, 2026, with another 5.8 GW under construction and development. NLC India has set a target of achieving 10 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
Established in 1956 and headquartered in Neyveli, Tamil Nadu, NLC India is a public sector enterprise with operations spanning lignite and coal mining, thermal power generation, renewable energy, critical minerals, and consultancy services.
