Xcel Energy has completed the third phase of the Sherco Solar project near Becker.
The company says the first three phases include roughly 1.7 million solar panels with a combined generating capacity of 710 megawatts. Sherco Solar is now Minnesota’s largest solar facility and one of the largest in the Upper Midwest.
Xcel Energy is also proposing a fourth phase that would increase the project’s total capacity to 910 megawatts by 2029. The company estimates that expansion could generate enough electricity for more than 190,000 homes.
