More than 200 students and teachers—many from the indigenous Dumagat Remontado community—are expected to gain access to a more conducive learning environment through the initiative. The solar-powered system will energize classrooms and support multimedia equipment, computers, and television sets, enabling more interactive lessons and improving classroom instruction.
The project will be implemented under OMF’s School Electrification Program (SEP), which aims to provide sustainable electricity to underserved public schools, particularly those in remote communities where access to reliable power remains limited.
The partnership was formalized through the signing of a deed of donation attended by OMF President and Meralco Chief Corporate Social Responsibility Officer Jeffrey O. Tarayao, Meralco Chief Operating Officer and OMF Trustee Engr. Ronnie L. Aperocho, and Meralco Distribution Utility Subsidiaries and Strategic Partnerships Head and OMF Trustee Engr. Ferdinand O. Geluz. Representing B&M Global Services Manila were Executive Director Lorie Barredo and Corporate Social Responsibility Team Leads Marianne Sandico and Kristine Pasia.
Investing in education through clean energy
Barredo said the partnership reflects the company’s commitment to creating meaningful social impact through sustainable development.
“Through this initiative, we are reminded that corporate social responsibility is at its best when organizations like ours partner together and fulfill the shared purpose of uplifting communities, expanding opportunities, and helping build a brighter future,” she said.
Tarayao emphasized that B&M Global Services Manila’s support goes beyond financial assistance.
“Your contribution is not only financial—it is strategic. It reflects the understanding that investing in education infrastructure is fundamental to long-term social progress. Together, we can help ensure that geography does not determine a child’s future,” he said.
Aperocho underscored the transformative role of electricity in education.
“It is easy to think of solar panels and wires, but this initiative is never just about infrastructure. Electricity opens doors to knowledge and technology. For the children of Libis, this power will ensure that geographical isolation and lack of electricity never stand in the way of their education and dreams,” he said.
Since launching its School Electrification Program in 2011, One Meralco Foundation has energized 308 public schools nationwide, bringing solar-powered electricity to more than 92,000 students and over 3,000 teachers, helping improve access to quality education in underserved communities.
