Sunprime, an Italy-based independent power producer (IPP), has acquired 11 ready-to-build photovoltaic (PV) plants with a combined capacity of approximately 100 MW from Starlight, the renewable asset development platform of NextEnergy Group. The acquisition represents the first phase of Sunprime’s Sophocles investment programme, which is backed by €507 million (~ $584.84 million) in financing from the European Investment Bank (EIB) and Natixis. The programme targets the acquisition and construction of 500 MW of solar projects and battery energy storage systems (BESS) by June 2027. The newly acquired projects are fully permitted and construction-ready, enabling Sunprime to focus on implementation and grid connection. Following the transaction, Sunprime’s platform exceeds 1,250 MW of solar capacity and 1.4 GW of BESS in development, construction and operation. For Starlight, the sale completes the monetisation of the remaining assets from its 300 MW Italian development platform while it continues advancing a 1.2 GW renewable energy pipeline across solar, wind and battery storage in Italy.
