The Indian Ministry of New and Renewable has proposed standardized nomenclature for PV cell models under ALMM List-II. The proposed 14-digit alphanumeric code would apply to every PV cell model enlisted under the list. It would identify wafer, ingot, and polysilicon origins as domestic or foreign through designated letter codes. Other positions would specify cell technology, wafer size, busbar count, and a manufacturer-specific identifier for each model. For example, DDFTCG12R16R01 denotes a domestic wafer, domestic ingot, foreign polysilicon, TOPCon technology, G12R wafer, and 16 busbars. MNRE said the system would improve uniform identification, traceability, and PV cell enlistment under ALMM. It may also provide a common identifier for regulatory, commercial, and related purposes across the value chain. Cell origin would distinguish ALMM List-I and List-I(a) PV modules using the Bill of Materials. Stakeholders may submit comments or suggestions no later than 13th August, 2026.
