State-owned energy company China Coal Group has entered the equipment commissioning phase for its 100,000-ton ‘Liquid Sunshine’ demonstration project in Ordos, Inner Mongolia, with full chemical process integration scheduled for completion by the end of 2026. With a total investment of RMB 4.967 billion, the project is described as the world’s first industrial-scale demonstration of solar-to-liquid fuel technology.
The project integrates 400 MW of solar PV and 225 MW of wind power to supply an electrolysis system capable of producing 21,000 tons of green hydrogen annually. The hydrogen will be combined with carbon dioxide captured from chemical plant exhaust to produce green methanol. At full capacity, the facility is expected to utilize 150,000 tons of CO₂ annually and indirectly reduce carbon emissions by around 350,000 tons while supporting renewable energy consumption.
Leading vertically integrated PV manufacturer Tongwei Solar’s Yancheng manufacturing base has received a Gold Medal in the 2026 EcoVadis sustainability assessment.
The facility scored 84 points, placing it among the top 5% of companies evaluated globally. According to the company, the Yancheng base is the first new energy manufacturing site to receive a Gold rating on its initial assessment. The evaluation covered environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. The Yancheng facility is Tongwei’s main module manufacturing base in the Yangtze River Delta, producing the company’s TNC (TOPCon) series modules.
On the finance side, Tongwei expects to report an adjusted net loss of RMB 4.8 billion-RMB 5.4 billion for the first half of 2026 (see China Solar PV News Snippets).
PV module manufacturer Cando Solar has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with recreational vehicle manufacturer Newgonow to develop integrated solar solutions for the RV market using lightweight PV products.
Under the partnership, Cando Solar will supply its 5 mm Qinggang modules, which the company said are 50% lighter than conventional panels and designed for RV rooftops and side panels. The companies also plan to integrate Cando Solar’s flexible ‘Solar Cloth’ technology into RV awnings to combine shading and power generation. Future cooperation will extend to RV-integrated photovoltaics, mobile medical units and portable office cabins.
Major Chinese energy developer CHN Energy has released the shortlist for an 843.61 MW PV module procurement tender for its 1.15 GW project in Aba, Sichuan Province.
The tender covers n-type TOPCon bifacial double-glass modules with a minimum power output of 645 Wp across two lots. Tongwei Solar ranked first for the 489.57 MW first lot with a bid of RMB 0.742/W, followed by Trinasolar at RMB 0.783/W. For the 354.05 MW second lot, JA ranked first with a bid of RMB 0.742/W, while Trinasolar was again shortlisted second at RMB 0.783/W.
