Boca Raton, FL – August 17, 2026 — Solar energy sites across Florida are becoming home to more than solar panels. Florida Power & Light Company is working with local beekeepers to bring honeybee colonies onto existing green spaces at solar energy centers, exploring ways renewable energy production and agriculture can share the same land.
The initiative places apiaries at solar sites where honeybees can take advantage of surrounding natural resources while providing pollination benefits to local ecosystems. Pollinators play an important role in food production and can also help support agricultural yields on neighboring farms.
In Martin County, FPL is working with McCoy’s Sunny South Apiaries, a third-generation beekeeping business that maintains 80 hives at the FPL Fawn Solar Energy Center.
