LONGi’s Next Growth Move: Scale BC Solar, Build PV-Storage Ecosystem Photograph: (AI)
LONGi Green Energy Technology is sharpening its growth strategy around back-contact (BC) solar technology and the integration of photovoltaic and energy storage solutions, as the Chinese solar major navigates a period of continued industry adjustment and changing global supply-chain dynamics.
In its 2026 half-year evaluation of its “Improving Quality, Increasing Efficiency and Enhancing Returns” action plan, LONGi said the photovoltaic industry remained under significant supply-demand pressure during the first half of the year, with domestic end-user demand temporarily declining and overseas markets accelerating efforts to build localized supply chains. The company said competition is increasingly shifting away from production capacity and individual module products towards product value, application scenarios and integrated system solutions. 
Against this backdrop, LONGi said it is focusing on its BC technology strategy and a coordinated PV-storage strategy to strengthen its core competitiveness. The company highlighted its relatively strong balance-sheet position, cash reserves and financial stability as key foundations for navigating the industry cycle and maintaining sustainable operations. 
LONGi shipped 48.91 GW of wafers during the first half of 2026, including 18.98 GW sold externally, while module shipments reached 29.93 GW. The company said its overseas module sales grew by more than 26% year-on-year, with overseas markets accounting for more than 65% of module revenue. 
The strongest growth came from its BC portfolio. LONGi reported BC module sales of 19.55 GW in the first half, up 125% year-on-year. BC modules accounted for more than 65% of its total module shipments, as the company moved its BC technology into large-scale mass production and accelerated commercialization. 
The company is also continuing to develop technologies aimed at improving the performance and economics of BC products. During the reporting period, its self-developed ACM, or Nano Alloy Matrix Contact, technology entered GW-scale mass production for cells and modules. LONGi said the technology, supported by advanced materials development and innovation, is being used to improve the efficiency and reliability of its BC modules. 
Beyond BC solar, LONGi is expanding its focus towards integrated PV and energy storage. The company has launched “LONGi ONE”, an integrated PV-storage product covering applications ranging from large-scale power plants to commercial and industrial parks. It said its proprietary energy-storage integration technology and global brand and channel capabilities have helped it achieve a breakthrough in energy-storage orders. 
The strategic shift is broader than simply adding energy storage to LONGi’s existing solar portfolio. The company said it plans to build a global localized delivery and service network and gradually transition from being a photovoltaic product supplier to an integrated comprehensive energy-solutions provider combining solar and storage. 
LONGi is simultaneously increasing its investment in technology development. As of the end of the first half of 2026, the company had more than 4,100 authorized patents, including 630 patents related to BC technology. During the period, it commercialized a range of technologies covering ACM, integrated conductive backsheets, tiling, hidden busbars, temperature-controlled alloy interconnections, smart modules, anti-dust module designs and LONGi One OS. 
The company is also pushing into next-generation solar technologies. LONGi said its independently developed crystalline-silicon/perovskite tandem solar cell achieved a 35.5% conversion efficiency certified by the European Solar Test Installation (ESTI), which it described as another world record for perovskite tandem solar-cell conversion efficiency. 
Taken together, the filing points to a two-pronged growth strategy for LONGi: accelerate the commercialization and scale-up of BC technology while building a broader PV-storage ecosystem. The approach would move the company further away from competing primarily on conventional module volumes and towards higher-efficiency products and integrated energy solutions.
For LONGi, the strategy comes at a time when the global solar industry is moving from capacity-led expansion towards technology differentiation and system-level solutions. The company said the accelerating integration of PV and storage is changing the nature of competition, making the ability to define application scenarios and deliver complete system solutions increasingly important.
