A solar developer will host a community meeting Tuesday evening to share details on a proposed new project on Berry Hill Road.
Although the meeting is planned from 6 to 8 p.m. in South Boston Town Council Chambers, located at 420 Main St., the town is not hosting the session, nor has the project come before the council’s agenda.
As part of a special use permit process, town code mandates such a community meeting. The meeting was advertised in The Gazette-Virginian.
Known as the Harris SB Solar Project, BAP Power LLC is proposing a 4.95 megawatt solar farm. Online property records show the 56 acres is located on Berry Hill Road, not far from the intersection of River Road.
At Tuesday’s meeting, residents may review the application, ask questions of the applicant and provide feedback.
Cenergy Power is the parent company of BAP Power.
In November of 2024, South Boston Town Council approved a solar farm in the community of Sinai, also led by the California-based energy company Cenergy Power.
That project was met with fierce community resistance.
The South Boston Planning Commission recommended to reject the project.
The Sinai project involves a 10-megawatt solar operation and battery storage facility that will span over 50 acres of the 104.93-acre site at 2101 River Road, not far from the new proposed site.
