Tesla Powerwall owner uses batteries daily, finds near-zero degradation after 3 years – The Cool Down

For homeowners wondering how well a home battery holds up under heavy day-to-day use, one Tesla Powerwall owner shared a useful long-term data point.
Even with what the owner called daily “abuse,” a three-year check suggested the two-battery system still had almost all of its original usable capacity.
This Powerwall owner took to Reddit’s r/Powerwall community to share what they learned.
In the Reddit post, the original poster said, “I’ve had my 29 panels and 2 powerwalls installed now since June 2023. I run them to zero most nights. Summertime near 100% charged during the day and run near zero or until empty at night. Wintertime they don’t get as full but still full or near full discharge at night. So basically I abuse the batteries.”
Later, OP noted that “I’ve used the Netzero app until last year and it showed 0% degradation.” To measure battery wear, the OP said they first drained the system completely, then turned off self-powered mode so the batteries would not be used while charging back to full. 
Reports in the thread showed that battery aging can look very different from one home to the next. One commenter in Hawaiʻi said two Powerwall 2 units that were about five years old retained 92.9% and 91.3% capacity, while a newer unit showed 93.3%.
A second commenter in Hawaiʻi described a much steeper drop, saying two Powerwall 2 batteries installed in 2019 had “degraded by a little over 33%.” That user said Tesla had already arranged an appointment to replace them and added that the units were part of “the bad batch.”
Another commenter added, “Mine also showed zero degradation and similar use as you. And then I woke up one morning and saw ‘Service Required – Low Energy Lockout.’ May your good luck continue!”
