Quinct Township will receive $98,000 annually from DTE solar farm – WTVB

QUINCY TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Township board has unanimously approved a “community benefit” agreement to receive $98,000 annually for the next 20 years from DTE Energy’s Cold Creek Solar project.
Outlined by attorney Keely A. Beemer during last weeks board meeting, the long-term funds are strictly designated for public use. Township officials say they plan to direct the annual payments toward vital community priorities, including infrastructure upgrades, economic development, and emergency services.
This newly secured yearly funding comes in addition to the previously established payment in lieu of taxes (PILT) that DTE Energy pays to cover standard project taxes.
The broader 100-megawatt solar farm is split across three local municipalities, with Quincy Township hosting 49 megawatts, Coldwater Township managing 42 megawatts, and Butler Township containing the remaining 9 megawatts.
Under the PILT agreement, Quincy Township taxing authorities will also pull in $7,000 per megawatt for its portion of the carbon-free energy facility as the site nears full commercial operation.
