ZEELAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Farmers in Zeeland Township are expressing concerns over the proposed Silver Maple Solar Project, which will span 1,900 acres across Zeeland and Jamestown townships. During a public meeting held last evening, several farmers voiced their apprehensions. Jeff Russcher, a third-generation hog farmer, highlighted that his farm is "completely encompassed" by the proposed solar field. He expressed concerns about stray voltage and its potential effects on his animals. Despite these concerns, Russcher emphasized that his family is not opposed to the solar farm itself but believes that alternative locations should be considered.
