Suriname tenders solar-storage minigrids – pv magazine Global

Suriname’s national public utility EnergieBedrijven Suriname (EBS) is searching for developers to carry out solar-storage minigrids and water infrastructure projects in rural areas of the country.
Available tender details split the procurement exercise into two lots.
The first lot covers the design, supply and installation of minigrids combining solar PV and battery energy storage systems (BESS) in ten indigenous communities, alongside eleven energy and water systems. The work is expected to take 30 months to complete.
The second lot covers the design, supply and installation of solar-BESS minigrids and water infrastructure in five clusters covering 16 Matawai communities. This work is expected to take 24 months.
The tender falls under a project bringing essential services to remote Amazonian villages known as Bio-economy Empowerment in Suriname’s Indigenous Communities through Access to Water, Energy and Telecommunications (Bio-Sweet).
The project is jointly-managed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the government of Suriname, with IDB partly financing the project costs. Additional tender details state part of these proceeds will go towards payments made under the two lots.
Interested bidders are requested to contact EBS for a complete set of bidding documents. The deadline to submit applications is October 30.
According to analysis published by the Borgen Project, more than 99% of urban residents in Suriname have access to grid electricity but rural access remains below 90%, with many remote villages currently reliant on diesel generators.
Suriname’s cumulative solar capacity stood at 16 MW by the end of last year, according to figures by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), up from 13 MW at the end of 2024.
