On September 14, 2026, First Tellurium Corp. (CSE: FTEL, OTC: FSTTF) revealed that its subsidiary, PyroDelta Energy, is creating a tellurium-based thermoelectric film designed to generate electricity from temperature differences when solar irradiance is minimal or absent. This innovative film is intended to be applied to the rear of conventional photovoltaic panels without modifying their fundamental design or infrastructure. This development places PyroDelta at the forefront of thermoelectric innovation within the rapidly growing global solar industry, which the International Energy Agency reports now accounts for over 10% of worldwide electricity consumption.
PyroDelta’s thermoelectric film is designed to be affixed directly to the back of standard photovoltaic panels, converting temperature differences—including heat retained and emitted from the ground—into electrical energy. This method aims to supplement, rather than replace, traditional solar power generation by producing extra electricity during periods of insufficient sunlight. The company highlights that no modifications to the panel’s basic structure or supporting systems are necessary, potentially facilitating adoption in both new solar installations and, pending further development and testing, existing global solar infrastructure.
Head Engineer Michael Abdelmaseh recently stated that the thermoelectric film achieves an estimated efficiency of approximately 11% to 12%, compared to the 20% to 22% efficiency typical of current photovoltaic panels. The technology is intended to augment photovoltaic output rather than compete with it. The announcement emphasizes that the solar film remains in the early stages of development, requiring additional research and testing before large-scale deployment.
First Tellurium President and CEO Tyrone Docherty confirmed that PyroDelta’s foremost near-term commercial focus is on heavy-lift drone technology. The company views drones as the most direct route to market and a platform to showcase the broader capabilities of its thermoelectric technology. The solar film project is positioned as a subsequent initiative to be advanced once drone markets are established, reflecting a phased approach to commercializing the company’s thermoelectric technology portfolio.
The announcement cites data from the International Energy Agency’s Photovoltaic Power Systems Programme, noting that global installed photovoltaic capacity neared three terawatts by the end of 2025, with around 698 gigawatts added that year. Solar PV now fulfills over 10% of global electricity demand. The company did not specify an addressable market size or commercialization timeline for the thermoelectric solar film in this announcement.
