WEST POINT, Miss. ( WTVA) — The Tennessee Valley Authority is inviting the public to join the environmental review process for the proposed Hope Solar Project and Storage Project that Hope SB is proposing to construct, maintain and operate.
TVA is asking the public to comment on the draft Environmental Impact Statement, which considers the potential impacts associated with the proposed Hope Solar and Storage Project, located north of West Point, Mississippi, and west of U.S. Highway 45 Alternate in Clay County, Mississippi. Anticipated generating capacity is up to 200 MW AC and an up to 400 MW, four-hour duration battery energy storage system.
The draft EIS analyzes two alternatives: No Action and Action. Under the No Action Alternative, TVA would not purchase the power under the 20-year purchase power agreement, or PPA, and would not be involved with the project, and Hope SB would not construct or operate the facility. Under the Action Alternative, TVA would purchase the renewable energy from the project under a 20-year PPA with Hope SB.
The project would occupy a portion of the 2,419-acre project study area, and the limits of disturbance would be approximately 1,700 acres.
TVA published the draft EIS on Sept. 15, kicking off a 15-day public comment period. The draft EIS is available at http://www.tva.com/nepa. The final EIS and decision are tentatively scheduled for release in early 2027.
